Gaza Cries Out as Starvation Claims Seven More Lives
(MENAFN) In the last 24 hours, starvation has claimed seven additional lives in the Gaza Strip, according to the Health Ministry, as the Israeli blockade continues to tighten.
“Hospitals recorded seven fatalities in Gaza in the past 24 hours as a result of famine and malnutrition,” the ministry reported in an official release.
This latest wave of deaths raises the total number of starvation-related fatalities since October 2023 to 154, including 89 children.
The UN World Food Program (WFP) issued a stark warning last week that one-third of Gaza’s residents have endured multiple days without food due to the ongoing Israeli siege.
WFP data reveals that 25% of Gaza’s population is living in famine-like conditions, with 100,000 women and children suffering from severe malnutrition.
Israel has imposed a blockade on Gaza for nearly two decades, and since March 2, all border crossings have been completely sealed, halting humanitarian aid and worsening the already critical situation in the region.
Palestinian authorities insist that at least 500 aid trucks must enter Gaza daily to adequately support the 2.4 million people living there.
Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli military has launched a relentless offensive in Gaza, resulting in the deaths of over 60,000 Palestinians. The ongoing bombardment has devastated infrastructure and caused widespread food shortages.
On Monday, Israeli rights groups B’Tselem and Physicians for Human Rights-Israel accused Israel of committing genocide in Gaza, citing the systematic destruction of Palestinian society and the deliberate dismantling of the territory’s healthcare system.
